Perks of Timbucktoo

We have a new family in the neighborhood. Gary was lucky enough to get some pictures of them yesterday.

So Sweet

Early Morning Spar

This morning while eating breakfast we spotted two Moose laying in the grass out our window. A mom and a baby. They were lounging waiting for the sun to come up. We watched their progress as the sunlight started appearing on the mountains across the valley. They slowly got up and stretched their legs. Then we noticed they seemed to be alert to something and wouldn’t you know it two more Moose came out of the trees across the little meadow to check them out as well. One male and one female. The little moose was curious but the mom kept guard. As you can see from the video clip it got a little touchy at one point.

There are a few more pictures of the Moose Extravaganza over here if your interested.

Curious Moose

A few days ago we woke up to this guy in our drive way once we got ourselves together and gathered up Ellie he decided to have a face off with the baby swing. We just got the swing from our friends (thanks you guys E love’s it). At first we thought he was using it to scratch his ears or something but then he became a little more aggressive with it perhaps because it was swinging back at him. Shortly after the video taping Gary started talking and this seemed to upset him more he snorted and moved into the open space in front of the house and did a few stomps and stared Gary down into submission and quickly coming back in the house. Don’t worry he was safely on the porch the whole time. We didn’t want to upset or stress the big guy any more though. This is the most aggressive Moose we have met in TL. I’m glad we introduced ourselves from the secure and safe porch rather than crossing paths on the TL roads.

Wildlife

This week we have had the pleasure of catching rare sightings of some Heber Valley natives. I love running across wildlife I’m always humbled by their beauty. Due to the harshness of this winter’s storm after storm the Deer and Elk have been on the move. They are getting closer and closer to the metropolis of Heber City in an effort to find food. Last week we spied this heard of Elk gathered in the eastern fields of the valley among the developing neighborhoods. On Sunday we caught some more Elk hanging out with some Deer in yet another developing neighborhood. Yesterday while on a walk up the road we came across Mr. Moose sunning himself in the neighbors driveway. I was very proud of our dogs they did not approach this guy and allowed Mr. Moose plenty of room while keeping a watchful eye. Adah has come a long way from the day she was dunked in the Green River by a Moose just trying to get to the other side. Finally there has been a Bald Eagle in the canyon. We have been able to see the glorious bird a few times but have yet to get a picture. Perhaps it’s best to just appreciate the elusive bird and be satisfied and grateful for the few showings it has made.

oh, that’s just Chip
